By now the new Muppets movie has added so many celebrity cameos, that I’ve lost track of who’s confirmed to be in it and who isn’t. So forgive me if we’ve reported this before, but Ricky Gervais and Emily Blunt are sneaking onto The Muppets set for a bit parts, according to THR. Also rumored to be joining the cast (at least according to a post from a relative of his on Facebook is Mickey Rooney. Yeah, that Mickey Rooney.

Celebrity cameos have always been a pretty fun part of the Muppet universe, but Jason Segel’s new take on Jim Henson’s classic characters has kind of gone overboard with them. I’m starting to get a little worried. Right now the movie has Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Zach Galifianakis, Rashida Jones, Chris Cooper, Charles Grodin, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Donald Glover, Danny Trejo, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, Lady Gaga, Paul Rudd, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. And those are just the big celebrity names I can remember off the top of my head. Now we’re adding two more and you’ve got to wonder when too much of a good thing becomes too much of a too good thing. I mean this is The Muppets and there are an awful lot of Muppet characters to fit in. Will there be any room left for them after every celebrity in Hollywood works in a cameo? Let’s hope they draw the line at Ricky Gervais who, admittedly, is a perfect fit for any Muppet project and will probably be brilliant, if there’s any room left for him to be brilliant after JCVD gets done giving karate lessons to the Swedish Chef.

There is some new information on who at least some of these people are playing. Word is that Jack Black will be playing himself, but will somehow be kidnapped, and eventually shot with cannonballs. Now that sounds Muppetastic. Emily Blunt will probably be playing someone along the lines of her Devil Wears Prada character, which seems like a sort of outdated reference to me, but trust the Muppets to make it work.

And if you’re still not sold on why this movie will be incredible, a ton of new set photos have emerged from Pacific Coast News, via Bleeding Cool. Take a look at some of the best ones below:

The Muppets is about revitalizing the old Muppet Theater to put on a big show, so that’ll probably help make room for lots of cameos. There’s probably nothing to worry about yet. I just get nervous where Kermit is concerned. Muppets From Space scarred me forever. For more on The Muppets visit its page in our Blend Film Database.
