When you hear the story of Gertrude Bell, you question why there hasn't been a biopic about her yet. A giant figure in the Middle East in the time before World War I - working alongside T. E. Lawrence - she was a key component in establishing both modern day Jordan and Iraq (this is in addition to the fact that she was an explorer, an archaeologist and a writer). Finally, somebody is putting her incredible life story to film.

Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is now planning to make a movie about Gertrude Bell. According to the story, Jeffrey Caine, who earned an Oscar nomination for his The Constant Gardner script, has already been hired to pen the screenplay. Currently directing the kind-of-an-Alien-prequel Prometheus, Scott has quite a few projects on his plate already, including the Monopoly movie, The Kind One (a noir piece with Casy Affleck) , and a Gucci biopic.

Obviously the project is going to have to wait a while while the director works on his current sci-fi epic, but when it does finally get going expect every working actress in Hollywood to go after the part. This has Oscar written all over it.
