In recent years, many have complained that Comic Con has changed for the worse. Despite the name of the event, the film industry has all but taken over the place. This year, however, there was a major unveiling for the comic book world: Dan LuVisi's graphic novel Last Man Standing. A project that has been in development for two years and selling out almost immediately, the book was considered by many to be the biggest hit of the convention. Guess what? They're making a movie out of it.

Deadline reports that Paramount has officially purchased the rights to Last Man Standing and will utilize it as a multiplatform franchise property. Set 600 years in the future, the book is about a soldier who is engineered to help Earth win a long battle with Mars. After returning to Earth, he is treated as a hero until he is framed for a crime by a crime syndicate. After nine brutal years in prison, he is finally able to break out and begin his life again. The graphic novel is only the kick-off point as the story will continue as a comic book series.

I doubt that you could find a comic book fan that is surprised by this news. Every graphic novel is considered a hot property until it is adapted for the silver screen and fails, and with anticipation levels so high for this one the only shocking thing is that the deal wasn't made sooner.
