Rob Zombie To Direct Conan?

By Josh Tyler: 2008-02-11 02:23:35
Rob Zombie To Direct Conan? Rob Zombie just can’t get enough of remakes. Ever since the mild success of his Halloween redo, he’s been rumored, attached, and talked up for numerous remakes of all sorts of films. The latest remake being rumored to end up in his hands is Lionsgate’s long gestating reboot of Conan the Barbarian.

The latest word on Zombie’s remake fetish comes from Bloody Disgusting where they say Zombie is meeting with folks at Lionsgate and Nu Image films about directing their Conan flick. Right now their rumor has no more substance than that, so at best the story here is simply that he may be talking about it. Who knows if they even want him.

It’s an interesting notion to say the least, and turning it over to Rob would definitely push the franchise in a completely different direction. Zombie is a horror director through and through, giving him Conan would almost certainly mean taking the thing away from action fantasy and inching it closer to the horror genre. If you think about it, that’s really not hard to do with Conan. The original movies were already pretty brutal. Hand it over to Zombie and he’ll mix in a few homicidal clowns, up the decapitations, use some bad camera angles, cheap scares, and pour a bunch of blood all over the set.
