It was just a few weeks ago that we reported that Angelina Jolie may have bailed on Wanted 2 in order to make Gravity with Alfonso Cuaron, and not long after that the news came that Gravity wouldn't be happening either after Universal ditched the project. Now another A-list star has come on board to breathe life back into the whole thing.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is negotiating to take one of the lead roles in the film-- not the one Jolie would have played, but the male lead. Downey Jr. and a yet-to-be-cast Jolie replacement would play members of a space exploration team who are outside the station when it is destroyed, killing everyone else on their team. Warner Bros. now has the project, and plans to start production this summer, finishing just in time for Downey Jr. to make Sherlock Holmes 2 in the fall.

It goes without saying that Downey Jr.'s participation in any project is likely to make it worth seeing, and the prospect of the actor returning to drama after a hugely successful stint in comedy and action is even more intriguing. Too bad Jolie won't be out there in space with him-- I like the idea of them teaming up-- but presumably it won't be hard to find an actress of equal caliber now that Downey Jr. is on board.
