Robin Williams Picks Up Another Generic Sounding Comedy![]()
Just when we were all ready to believe in Robin Williams again, after his brave and pretty excellent performance in World's Greatest Dad, he goes and does this. "This" being the romantic comedy Wedding Banned, whose title should tell you everything you need to know about the demographic, the poster art, and probably opening weekend grosses.
OK, if you're a stickler for details, here's what THR tells us: Williams would play one half of a divorced couple who kidnap their daughter on ther wedding day, figuring that if they get divorced, their child must too! While on the lam, of course, the couple rekindles their love, and... I don't know, I'm thinking dual wedding. Or at least a knowing glance at each other from opposite sides of the aisle as the new couple kiss. The comedy is being produced by Touchstone, the Disney arm that's also responsible for the upcoming Old Dogs, which has Williams and John Travolta in an equally trite sounding comedy. I really can't figure out what Williams is after-- are the royalties from Mrs. Doubtfire just not enough to keep him going? Working on something like World's Greatest Dad has to be more satisfying artistically, so why does he keep having to go back and hurt us with something like this? |
