RoboCop Viral Web Site Teases Weapons Of Mass Protection
Strange as this may seem, viral web sites for fictional corporations meant to tease upcoming science-fiction movies are all the rage. I know, weird, right? First, there was a bogus Umbrella Corporation site that was established as part of the marketing campaign for the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution. And now we’re getting a good look at an OmniCorp site that teases the re-imagined world of the crime-fighting hero, RoboCop.
A PSA attached to the front of the site sets up a world where crime is contained by an elaborate line of defense products, from aerial drones that fly over our cities to the ED-209, which packs “Twin .50 cal. COBRA Cannons” and “Hell Fire Missles.” Awesome. The clip then teases the RC 2000, the next generation of security that marries a human component to the most cutting edge technologies.
And we all know how that’s going to turn out.
Currently, access is denied to several of the site’s top areas, be it “Products” or “Projects.” But you can expect to see more information loaded onto the site as we get closer to the film’s release date. Director José Padilha will helm this retrofitted RoboCop reboot, with The Killing co-star Joel Kinnaman stepping into the armor. The ensemble’s shaping up to be pretty impressive. Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Laurie and Abbie Cornish have been cast in supporting roles for the movie, which will be in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013. Until then, have fun exploring the new OmniCorp site. Tell us if you unlock any viral secrets.
