If you’re going to be in the Rochester, New York area next month and you’re a fan of horror films, you might want to check out the Dryden Theater. Just in time for Halloween, the theater will be screening a rare uncut version of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

BleedingCool.com caught this news, noting that Rochester’s Dryden Theater has a screening scheduled for the classic horror film starring Jack Nicholson, set for October 22nd. As noted on the Dryden Theater’s website, the film includes “a chilling coda cut from the original release.”

BleedingCool offers some interesting information on the past practice of re-editing movies after they were released. Apparently, a few days after The Shining began to make its way into theaters, Kubrick took the film back into the editing room and trimmed away four minutes. Film buffs and those who consider The Shining to be among the best and scariest of all of the horror movies may be curious about what those four minutes included. BC’s research says there’s one cut scene involving state troopers and another scene that took place in a hospital, but it’s unknown what was said during that scene. It would be interesting to see them though, if only to speculate what it was about them that prompted Kubrick to cut them out. Was it a matter of trying to tighten up the film and eliminate some unnecessary moments? Or did the scenes conflict with something within the story?

For those who need to know what it was Kubrick decided to pull from the movie, a trip to Rochester may be in order. If you go, I recommend heading to Nick Tahou’s for a garbage plate.

UPDATE:
According to a contact from the Eastman House, "The version of “The Shining” screening at Eastman House will be the 142-minute extended U.S. version that includes footage Mr. Kubrick subsequently cut from the European release."
