Roland Emmerich Plans 3D Mo-Cop Adaptation Of The Foundation Trilogy![]()
When 2012 came out last fall, Roland Emmerich seemed to think he might take a break from giant movies and make something small-- or Independence Day 2, whichever struck him as better at the time. But now MTV reports that Emmerich has big plans to tackle Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy-- and, because this is 2010, it'll all be in 3D and motion capture.
Think someone's a little jealous that James Cameron is King of World again? Emmerich told MTV, "The Avatar technology applies to Foundation. It has to be done all CG because I would not know how to shoot this thing in real." Emmerich added, "[Avatar has] just shown that if you do a movie in 3-D, you can ask for more money and that's the trick. I think now everybody who does bigger movies has to shoot them in 3-D." Having checked out the Wikipedia page for the Foundation trilogy and gotten confused after the first sentence or two, I have no idea either how I could ever understand a movie version, or how Roland Emmerich could make it. I imagine the sci-fi nerds have been worked up over this for weeks now and I'm just now getting on board, but seriously, what is he thinking? At least all the 3D and mo-cap will make it abundantly clear what this will be: a blatant cash grab. We all bought tickets to 2012, people. We made this happen. |
