If there’s one good thing to be said for The Da Vinci Code, it may be that it was the movie that got Ron Howard away from sappy, manipulative tear-jerkers and in to the much more interesting world of mystery thrillers.

As a follow up to Da Vinci, Howard is considering directing something called Cache. Variety says it’s based on a French movie about a couple who find increasingly violent videos laying around on their porch. Howard’s long time partner Brian Grazer is already set to produce it for Imagine Entertainment, and word is that Ron is eyeballing the director’s chair.

The original 2005 French movie Howard is basing his on, starred Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil. It actually got a small release in the United States last year, under the title Hidden.

But will Ron have enough time to do it? He’s juggling a lot of different projects including a sequel to The Da Vinci Code called Angels & Demons, he’s working on a John Steinbeck adaptation called East of Eden, and he has a garment industry expose called The Look of Real which he may do with his newly famous actor daughter Bryce Dallas Howard.
