Rooney Mara Can't Explain Her Violent Tendencies In Side Effects Trailer
Today’s been a busy day for outstanding international trailers, which only means we have some exciting features rolling into theaters in the coming weeks. First, it was a raucous international tease for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s buddy-cop comedy The Heat. Now Open Road is laying the groundwork for Steven Soderbergh’s latest, Side Effects, with a moody and mysterious trailer that spells out far more plot points than we’ve previously seen.
We have it for you below:
First and foremost, Soderbergh’s Side Effects cast is stimulating. Several repeat Soderbergh “offenders” are contributing here, from Jude Law and Channing Tatum to Catherine Zeta Jones. It’s all funneling through Rooney Mara, though, playing a woman who agrees to try a revolutionary new prescription drug that boasts terrifying side effects. But there’s a lot more at play here, and I’ll leave it up to you whether you want to dig deep into the international trailer (which can be a little too revealing) or wait to be surprised by the director’s various sleight-of-hand tricks.
Here’s another fact that could tip you over toward seeing Side Effects: It’s the latest collaboration between Soderbergh and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, who penned the scripts for Soderbergh’s tremendous The Informant! as well as the riveting disease thriller Contagion. Basically, I’d see anything these two decide to do together, and I’ll be one of the first in line when Side Effects opens in the States on Feb. 8. How about you?
