Stephen King and Eli Roth seem like a marriage made in heaven. While not many appreciated the camp of Roth’s Cabin Fever, it had the feeling of some of King’s old school writing. Hostel was a little more accepted by fans, paving the way for Roth to tackle Cell.
Variety is reporting that Dimension Films has acquired the rights to King’s latest novel, with the intent of having Roth direct. Cell could be Roth’s chance to do a good old fashioned zombie flick with the story of a pulse sent out on cell phones that zombifies users.
Aint’ It Cool News used their connections with Roth to get a comment on the flick. Roth says he wants to do this on a ‘Roland Emmerich’ scale – witnessing this zombie infestation happening on a global level. I have to agree with that. Given the amount of zombies… er, people I run into focused intently on their cell-phone conversations at Wal-Mart, on college campus, driving on the interstate, etc, Roth could have a lot of fun with this story. In fact, I’ll go as far as to say this could be the best King-adapted flick ever!
