Ruby Sparks Gets UK Trailer, Flashy New Poster Ahead Of Release

With Ruby Sparks reaching theaters (in limited release) starting on July 25, Fox Searchlight is stepping up the marketing campaign on what we’re hearing is a whimsical and offbeat romance with a ton of heart and endless charms. A full trailer hit the Web a while back, showing struggling writer Paul Dano and his introduction to the pixie muse, Ruby (Zoe Kazan). Now we’re getting a UK trailer and a new poster, both of which convey the film’s off voice … we think. First, the trailer (courtesy of BleedingCool):

And then there’s the poster below, which suggests two young lovers so full of life as they blissfully plunge into a welcoming pool. The design suggests the cover of a graphic novel. It’s so striking you almost don’t notice the impressive cast, which also includes Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, Steve Coogan abnd Elliott Gould.

Kazan, who plays Ruby, also wrote the screenplay. Directing duties go to Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, who previously worked with Dano on the excellent Little Miss Sunshine. The premise behind Ruby strikes us as a little too winsome – a struggling writer “invents” a dream girl who, for reasons unknown, does everything that he puts on his blank page. But we’re hearing such good things about Sparks, and this trailer’s so intriguing, that we’re now eagerly anticipating July 25. Here’s that new poster. What do you think of what we’re seeing so far?
