Ryan Reynolds is heading back to the comic book/graphic novel world. Collider is reporting Reynolds has joined the Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) produced film adaptation of the graphic novel R.I.P.D. Moritz hopes to start R.I.P.D. at the beginning of next year.

R.I.P.D. or Rest in Peace Department is a Peter Lenkov-penned, graphic novel about two deceased cops who work the underworld keeping the non-living in line. Reynold’s character, Nick Cruz, is recently deceased and has exchanged one hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. for the chance to avenge his murderer. Moritz says the film will be in the buddy-cop format as Cruz is teamed with an older (deader?) R.I.P.D. detective who’s literally been to hell and back.

Reynolds just crushes the comic book world. He played Deadpool/Wade Wilson/Weapon XI in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is currently filming and starring in Green Lantern, will reprise the Deadpool role in an upcoming feature and already has Blade: Trinity under his belt. That’s quite a Comic Con resume.
