With X-Men: The Last Stand still milling around in theaters, it may seem a little early to start talking about Hugh Jackman's impending Wolverine spin-off movie. But the guys over at The Movie Blog have dug up a bit of info on who Wolvy might be facing in his solo movie from If Magazine (Yeah, I've never heard of it before either).

"If" scored an interview with X-Men 3 screenwriter Simon Kinberg, in which he reveals that Sabretooth will have a part in the Wolverine movie. "Sabretooth will be in there, but I don’t know in what form. I think his relationship with Wolverine is under explored," he says. He's definitely right about the Wolvy/Sabretooth dynamic. It wasn't just under explored, it was pretty much ignored.

The problem with exploring any of the Sabretooth/Wolverine rivalry from the comics, is that the established storylines have already basically rewritten their relationship so that a long standing rivalry can't exist. In the universe of the films, Sabretooth and Wolverine had never met before the first X-Men. There's no history between them, not enough to scrape together into anything that resembles the longstanding mutual hatred they have for one another in the comics universe.

Wolverine is still in early development stages, we'll have to wait and see whether Sabretooth actually makes it in to the final script being written by David Bernioff and Len Wein.
