Sacha Baron Cohen As A Pop Star Wannabe For His Next Movie?![]()
Now that Sacha Baron Cohen has made movies out of all three characters from his HBO series Da Ali G Show, it seems like a good time to hang the solo movie thing up and slip comfortably into Hollywood’s warm embrace where he’ll surely become one of the most sought after comedic character actors. That’s the logical thing to do, especially after Bruno was met with less then enthusiastic success.
It may be the logical thing, but that’s not what he’s doing. Sacha Baron Cohen is developing a new character with his partner Dan Mazer for another movie. The Sun says the film would be a mockumentary about a “Eurovision singer”. Eurovision is kind of like an international American Idol in which European countries submit songs and then audiences vote on the best one via a live television broadcast. The story comes from the notoriously unreliable Sun, so take the whole thing with a grain of salt. That said, they claim the idea was originally developed for Bruno before they went in another direction with his film. That might explain why they'd already have a script, which will be developed by Working Title Films for a release in 2011. Assuming any of this turns out to be true, don’t expect another one of Sacha’s ambush documentaries. He’s become too recognizable to pull them off and Cohen's been fairly adamant about Bruno being the last of those. Instead anticipate a fully scripted mockumentary, more like one of Christopher Guest’s movies, except focused on Cohen as a pop star wannabe. We’ll let you know as soon as there’s some confirmation for The Sun’s story. Until then, consider it a rumor. |
