Salma Hayek Accepts An Invitation To Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg's Sausage Party

There was once a time when Adam Sandler was regarded as a fresh, hip comedic talent. Those days were a long time ago, and now all that's left is the Sandler that everyone knows and loathes. The Adam Sandler that has Blended scheduled for release on a weekend that would have made sense back in 1998. The Adam Sandler that somehow found time to make movies like Reign Over Me while signing a contract to star in Bedtime Stories. It only took a couple false moves to put Adam Sandler on the list of "Comedians Who Sold Out", and inspire the still developing "Sandler Curse". Deadline ran a piece that not only suggests Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg may be heading the same way as Mr. Sandler, and just like their predecessor did with Grown Ups before them, they're taking Salma Hayek along for the ride.

Ms. Hayek has joined the cast of Sausauge Party a new R-rated animated movie based on a script by Rogen and Golberg that already features a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, and usual suspects James Franco, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and David Krumholtz. With a cast like this, the logline could be pretty much anything, and it could have potential. Just in case you're not familiar with the actual synopsis of the film, it goes something like this.

After falling out of a shopping cart, the hero sausage and his new friends embark on a journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the Fourth of July sale.

So the film is about a sausage hero trying to make it into the Forth Of July sale in his local supermarket. And this is supposed to be an R-Rated movie. Without any concept art or footage to review, it may be unfair to judge this concept on the merit of its summary alone. In fact, it looks like the best way we can evaluate this project is to see what movies have come before it. To continue the Adam Sandler analogy, one might compare the movie to Sandler's 2002 almost-forgotten holiday misstep, Eight Crazy Nights.

To represent the actual thematic concept, we have the trailer for the 2012 direct to video animated film, Foodfight!.

And finally let's throw in some that R-Rated flavor that Rogen and Golberg are famous for, with the red band trailer for This Is The End.

If you blend these three trailers together you might get something close to what directors Greg Tiernan andConrad Vernon are attempting to make into a singular film, and the results could possibly work if done carefully. Either way, we wish Ms. Hayek luck in her new endeavor, and hope this doesn't turn out to be another Grown Ups 2. Sausage Party is looking to be released next year, but no specific date has been set.
