Since being dissed by Sony back in January when he was let go from the Spider-Man franchise, Sam Raimi has been a busy man. In addition to World of Warcraft, which is currently his next slated project, he has also been rumored to helm a remake of The Shadow and, most recently, was confirmed to direct Robert Downey Jr. in Oz: The Great and Powerful. But while the most recent announcement regarding Oz seemed quite absolute, things aren't as set in stone as you think.

Speaking with Collider on the red carpet of the Saturn Awards, Raimi was quoted saying, "I’m not really committed to ‘Oz’. We’re gonna wait and see how that all goes. I did read it, I love the script, it’s a great project. It’s something I’d like to become involved with." The statement comes in contrast to an article written by Nikki Finke for Deadline, who confirmed that he had signed on last week.

It did seem somewhat strange that Raimi would sign himself on to two major projects at once, but given the treatment he received from Sony it was understandable. There's no better way to win a break-up than by sleeping with plenty of strange women immediately after the split. As long as the tone matches Raimi's usual style, I can't imagine that this would be considered a bad choice by either side, so whether he does come aboard or doesn't, there probably won't be hurt feelings either way.
