Sam Raimi Remaking Evil Dead

It was back in 2008 that filmmaker Sam Raimi first promised that not only was another Evil Dead sequel possible, but at the time something he was about to start work on right away. Nothing ever came of it, but the rumors persist.

Producer Rob Tappert, who worked with Raimi on Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness is now taking his turn at touting another installment. Talking to the Detroit Free Press he claims that not only is another Evil Dead possible, “we're looking at a script this month”. It’s worth noting that this is much the same thing Raimi said back in 2008, when he was trying to drum up publicity for other projects. Now Tappert is trying to drum up publicity for his current work on TV’s Spartacus. Be a little skeptical here. Lying to get publicity seems to be more popular than ever.

For now, until we have evidence to the contrary, we have no choice but to take Tappert at his word when he says, "What's interesting about 'Evil Dead' is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the theater… I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror and see it remade for a proper theatrical experience.”

See what he did there? It sounds like this project, if it truly exists, is less of a sequel than a total remake. Begin wailing and gnashing your teeth Evil Dead fans.
