Just last month it was announced that R.L. Stine's Goosebumps books would be given the big screen treatment. It was cool news for anyone who, like me, grew up on stories like Night of the Living Dummy or The Haunted Mask. They were cheap little paperbacks but a fun read nonetheless. But while a great deal of Stine's focus was on horror for children, he did write some adult-oriented books, and now one of them is getting its own deal.

THR reports that Sam Raimi's production company Ghost House Pictures has purchased the rights to Stine's novel The Sitter with plans to make it into a film (though the title will be changed to The Au Pair). First published in 2003, the film is about a young woman who gets a job as a nanny in the Hamptons, which goes well until she discovers a horrifying secret.

Does it sound generic and similar to about 20,000 other projects? You betcha. Sam Raimi may be a great director, but he does have a bad habit of producing not-so-stellar films like The Messengers, Boogeyman and Armored. Now that he's officially attached to Oz: The Great and Powerful, perhaps he'll focus his energy more on his own work and less on producing low-grade horror.
