While some of us were cramming ourselves into theaters for Avatar Day last Friday, a group of other onliners were hanging out with Jake Sully himself, interviewing Sam Worthington on the set of Clash of the TItans in the U.K. And even though he was running around in a costume resembling a loincloth, and supposedly existing in the ancient world, he was just as concerned as anyone about the fan reaction to 15 minutes of Avatar footage.

"I read all what was said yesterday about the trailer and I can see their point. As I said, it's not meant to be [seen] on an Apple Mac. It's built for IMAX. It's built for 3D. That's what [James Cameron] designed it for. He's designed it to bring people back to the cinema."

He also talked to Cinematical a bit about the experience of filming largely on green screens, and how it wasn't just reacting against nothing in some windowless room. "In Avatar, you wouldn't ever act to nothing – there's an explosion and he'll throw stuff at you or hit you with a big stick so you're propelled across the room or fire a gun so there was the sound of it. hHe would always give you something to react to. The challenge is finding the right thing to make the reaction true. And also, working with nothing takes you back to the basics, which is – it's just you and another person. There's no distractions."

There's lots more from hunka-hunka-burning-love Worthington at Cinematical, so head over there for the rest of the juice-- including his admission that, yeah, there were actually some plot holes in Terminator: Salvation. Honesty from a Hollywood actor about one of his projects? Maybe this Australian invasion is good for us after all.
