Once he’s finished taking care of airborne snakes Samuel L. Jackson will join the cast of Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman’s new movie Jumper, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The script is based on a same named novel by Steven Gould and tells the story of a boy from a broken home who discovers he has the ability to teleport. Tele-boy decides to use his powers to find the guy he thinks killed his father, drawing the ire of the National Security agency and another kid with the same bamfing transportation powers.
Sam Jackson is a little past boyhood, so he’ll play an NSA agent hot on the trail. This is the first film in a planned trilogy. If it does well, expect two more further down the road.
The plot sounds mildly intriguing, it sounds like a cross between The Butterfly Effect and a Steven King novel. If it were just the story of a teleporting kid being chased by the government, I’d be pretty disinterested. But throwing another teleporter into the mix adds another layer to it. Sammy J isn’t very good as a cop, but as Denzel Washington and Michael Douglas have proven time and again, cop roles are the best way to make easy money Hollywood. You can’t really fault him for continuing to take them.
