Saoirse Ronan Is At Risk In The Host Trailer

This Friday Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will stride intro theaters, and with it bring the about the end of The Twilight Saga. But fans of Stephenie Meyer's books need not mourn the conclusion of Bella and Edward's rocky romantic tale, since another Meyer's adaptation is slated to hit the big screen next spring.

Rather than vampires, the intriguing creature at the core of Meyer's The Host are brain-invading aliens who have seized control of the much of mankind worldwide. In this post-apocalyptic landscape, one teenage girl named Melanie Stryder won't give over her mind so easily to Wanderer, the extraterrestrial attempting to take root. But the invader and the invaded find an unexpected common ground when Wanderer encounters Melanie's boyfriend Jared, a sexy rebel human.

We got a glimpse Saoirse Ronan as Melanie/Wanderer and Max Irons as Jared on The Host's poster just yesterday, and now MTV has unveiled the film's trailer, which will likely play to thrilled Breaking Dawn audiences this weekend. Check it out below:

Offering a romance complicated by a supernatural element and a tricky love triangle, there's obvious ties to Twilight, but there's something much more ambitious on display in The Host's trailer. To fit the film's grander scale of a world in ruins from alien invasion, the producers plucked sci-fi craftsman Andrew Niccol, who has helmed such trippy adventures as In Time and Gattaca, to write and direct. And from this first look, it seems he might be onto something, and could well capture an audience outside of the already massive Twilight crowd.

The Host touches down in theaters on March 29, 2013. For more information and photos, check out our Blend Film Database.
