Saw Director James Wan Taking On Vampires With Nightfall![]()
Since he created a series of monsters by directing the original Saw, James Wan hasn't been nearly as ubiquitous as his creation Jigsaw. He made the Kevin Bacon revenge flick Death Sentence that was almost immediately forgotten, and his next creepiest Insidious, starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, has yet to see release. He may be destined for a career making low-level horror and thriller films, and his next project looks like another one in that vein.
According to Deadline Wan is set to direct Nightfall, an adaptation of the Platinum Studios graphic novel about a man sentenced to a prison run by vampires-- presumably that sucker is harder to break out of than Alcatraz. Wan will oversee the script development but doesn't seem to be attached as a writer. He said of the project, "The minute I heard the concept, I was in. Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool." The other Platinum comic currently out for adaptation, Cowboys & Aliens, looks like a much higher profile thing with Jon Favreau directing and Daniel Craig starring. But this one might work well two as a low-budget creepy kind of thing. At least the people always complaining that vampires are scary, not sexy, will have a movie they can get behind at last. |
