I've never liked Scarlett Johansson in period pieces, she just doesn't look like she fits. Her look is too modern, and her fantastic figure is kind of wasted beneath all those layers of corsets and skirts. Regardless, she's signed up to do another one. This time she's traveling back into the history of Scotland, where she'll play Queen Mary of Scotland.
The Hollywood Reporter says she's been cast in Mary Queen of Scots as the lead, and while there's no director attached yet they plan to start shooting the movie by the end of next summer. Jimmy McGovern's screenplay for the film depicts the antagonistic relationship between Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England, who tried to undermine Mary's rule.
Scarlett is loading up on period dramas lately. In a few weeks she'll show up in Chris Nolan's turn-of-the-century magician battle movie The Prestige. She's also slated to star in The Other Boleyn Girl, where she'll compete with Natalie Portman for the affection of King Henry VIII, played by the incredibly lucky Eric Bana.
