If you're not excited about Martin Scorsese's next movie, The Departed, then you're probably either oblivious or an Oscar voter. Actually, those are probably one and the same. Marty can't seem to get an Oscar, but then the Academy often overlooks genius. In his case, they've turned a blind eye decade after decade after decade.
It's unlikely The Departed will change anything. If he was going to win, it would have been for The Aviator, not a gangland cop drama. The only thing the Academy loves more than a good biopic is a movie about the mentally handicapped. Maybe Scorsese should have directed Jackass Number Two instead of remaking Infernal Affairs.
The Departed arrives in less than a month, and we've scored an unreasonable number of new photos from the film.
