In a bizarre piece of news, it looks like a prequel to a prequel is now underway. Moviehole says someone has been stupid enough to fund a prequel to the failed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson movie The Scorpion King, which was itself a prequel to The Mummy movies.

The project is being directed by former Highlander helmer Russell Mulcahy, who also directed the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction sequel. Not involved in the project in any way is The Rock, who is much to busy making equally horrible movies about raising cute little kids. Instead, they’re doing it on the cheap and recasting, looking for someone “exotic” to take over for Dwayne.

The movie is supposed to tell the backstory of The Scorpion King character and his lady love, except of course the original Scorpion King movie was supposed to tell his backstory as well. This guy has too much backstory. Worse, I doubt anyone cares about any of it. This can’t possibly be a theatrical release can it? I smell a direct to DVD sequel.
