Scott Pilgrim Gets A Release Date![]()
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Michael Cera, a girl, and a conflict walk into a bar. Cera says to the girl (who could be any girl at this point, I’m convinced he’d fall in love with any of them) in his most awkward Michael Cera voice, “Umm, I think you’re pretty, let’s go out.” Without remorse, the girl denies him. A director sees this happen and from across the room yells, “LET’S MAKE THIS A MOVIE!”
How many more Michael Cera loglines will end with “quest to win a girl’s heart”? He’s certainly carved out a niche for himself, but for God’s sake man, step out of your box just for once. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has been in production since April 2009 and after a pile of images and video diaries, director Edgar Wright is finally close enough to finished with the next Michael Cera adventure to give us a release date. Universal Pictures has announced their slate for 2010, and you’ll be able to sate your scrawny awkward kid hunger on Friday the 13th, which this year happens to be in August. Edgar Wright may add something unique to this-- it's a hybrid of romantic comedy and video games, after all--but with all the other Cera films that follow this exact formula, there’s no point in canceling your slasher movie marathon. |
