Screenwriter Hired For Martin Luther King Biopic![]()
Never claim that the movie business doesn't have a knack for timing. Just a day after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, THR is reporting that screenwriter Ronald Harwood has been hired to write the King biopic planned by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks.
Harwood wrote screenplays for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Pianist, winning an Oscar for the latter, and will have the full cooperation of the King estate in putting the movie together. Spielberg is only attached as a producer at this point, but no doubt his name will be instrumental in keeping the movie moving forward. It's really only surprising that it's taken this long for a King biopic to come together, and now that Harwood's name is attached, the Oscar-bait nature of this thing just keeps going. The biggest challenge Harwood will face is actually inserting some drama into the whole thing, making King an actual human rather than a titanic, larger-than-life symbol. I suffered through the glowing biopic Amelia; I know how badly this can go. GIve us the movie we deserve, Harwood. |
