I have to confess, upon entering college, I knew absolutely nothing about Sweeney Todd. I was vaguely aware of the general concept: a barber hurts some people and some stuff happens. Then after my freshman year, I unknowingly began cohabitating with the biggest Sweeney Todd fan ever to set foot on God’s green earth. He watched the Neil Patrick Harris one; he watched the Angela Lansbery version; and he incurred my nearsighted insults until I actually watched it. And *gasp* kind of liked it. I can now, honestly and maybe unfortunately, say that I am a fan.

Thankfully, for myself and other fans of the musical, Variety is reporting that Sweeney Todd will be out by Christmas. Well, out by Christmas if you live in a big city. The Tim Burton (Batman) adaptation will be getting a limited release on December 21st.

Sweeney Todd will star Edward Scissorhands protagonist Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter(Big Fish, Fight Club). The much anticipated film will also feature Sacha Baron Cohen(Borat) and Die Hard villain Alan Rickman.

No word yet on how many dudes will be dragged to the theatre by overbearing girlfriends and find out, to their surprise, that they actually like a musical.
