Sean Astin is returning to fantasy for the first time since Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately he’ll be playing a gopher who befriends an oak tree.
The movie is an animated, eco-message movie called Spirit of the Forest. Variety says Giovanni Ribisi, Ron Perlman, Anjelica Huston, and Sean Astin have been signed up to provide character voices. Astin and Ribisi play gopher buddies being terrorized by a clear cutting businesswoman who wants to tear down their home to make room for a new highway. Somewhere along the way, the trees start come to life and help the animals fight back, teaching us all the danger of underestimating vegetation. Next time, forget the axes and just nuke the leafy bastards.
