As bad as things are in America right now, they’re even worse in Mexico. The country is under assault from gangs of drug cartels and so, we’re sending in Sean Penn to take them out.

Variety says Penn will star in a movie called Cartel. In it he’ll play a father who journeys to Mexico to protect his son after his wife is brutally murdered by the Mexican cartels. Weirdly it’s based on an Italian drama called La scrota, about four cops attempting to guard a prosecutor trying to bring mob bosses to justice. That doesn’t sound even remotely similar, probably because Hollywood has now done what it does and turned it into a Die Hard-like action flick for Penn.
