Season Of The Witch Trailer: We're Gonna Need More Holy Water![]()
About a year ago we were looking forward to The Season of the Witch as another over-the-top Nicolas Cage effort, this one starring him as a knight who returns from the Crusades only to be charged with taking a girl accused of witchcraft to a monastery where she can be cured. Then the movie was pushed at the last minute from its planned March release date, which was probably a sign that the movie was just as absurd as we were hoping, but also no fun for the fans of bad Cage hairdos and accents (The Sorcerer's Apprentice luckily came along in July to fill that niche, but it wasn't enough! Never enough!)
Now The Season of the Witch has finally snagged a new release date, gracing us with its presence come January 7 of next year. Apple has also debuted a brand-new trailer for the film, which is a fair bit different from the one we were seeing last fall. There's far less focus on the mystical aspects of the accused witch, and much more scenes of battles on wide-open plains and swords clanging against each other. The trailer also ends with the amazing line "We're gonna need more holy water," which makes this the only moment at which anyone will ever compare Season of the Witch to Jaws. You're welcome. Watch the trailer below, paired with the original trailer just for comparison's sake. I've also included the official synopsis and a link to our preview page, where you can find pretty much everything else you could possibly want to know about the film. Oscar winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure, Ghost Rider) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Hellboy II, Sons of Anarchy) star in this supernatural action adventure about a heroic Crusader and his closest friend who return home after decades of fierce fighting, only to find their world destroyed by the Plague. The church elders, convinced that a girl accused of being a witch is responsible for the devastation, command the two to transport the strange girl to a remote monastery where monks will perform an ancient ritual to rid the land of her curse. They embark on a harrowing, action-filled journey that will test their strength and courage as they discover the girl's dark secret and find themselves battling a terrifyingly powerful force that will determine the fate of the world.
