Sacha Baron Cohen is at it again as his alter-ego Borat. The comic character made his way across the country, making people feel uncomfortable and making an ass out of himsef and filmed it. The result is the upcoming Borat movie (or the longer version of the title Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazahkhstan).

I’ll be honest, Cohen’s humor eludes me. I don’t see the benefit to watching him travel around making fools of both himself and the people around him, particularly when the people around him don’t necessarily deserve it. This has nothing to do with him slaughtering the National Anthem in a town near to me (which you can see in the trailer), it just has to do with that style of humor just not working for me. Sure, there are lots of people who take themselves too seriously and maybe seeing how they react to a strange character like Borat may be entertaining for a few minutes, but a two hour movie? And the fact that the nation of Kazahkhstan has taken offense at the character is added insult.

Borat ends his trailer with the plea, “Please, you see my film. If it not success, I will be execute.” I can’t think of a greater incentive not to see this movie, but that’s just me.
