Secrets Of JJ Abrams' Super 8 Revealed: In-Depth Plot Details!
Like Cloverfield, Lost or really anything J.J. Abrams has ever produced, directed or taken a shit near, the details of his upcoming Super 8 have been zealously guarded like the innerworkings of a cult. A few months back we got a teaser involving a trainwreck, but even the accidentís mere relevance to the plot was one big question mark. Not so anymore. Abrams, with a little prodding from producer Steven Spielberg, has finally opened up, giving The Los Angeles Times, story and plot details. This may actually prove wise. I was only moderately interested before, and now Iím very on board.
First, as some have speculated, the title refers to the line of Super 8 film Kodak produced starting in 1965. That may not seem relevant now, but back in the day, the equipment was standard for anyone serious about working behind a camera. As far as the story itself, Super 8 will be set in Ohio in 1979. Itíll follow a group of friends pooling their resources to make a zombie movie. One night on set, the aforementioned train crashes, unleashing an inhuman beast.
The Los Angeles Times reportedly got to see about a thirty minute cut, and theyíre describing it as a bit of an X-Files meets Stand By Me vibe. They also brought up The Goonies and Fringe, but frankly, Iím more excited with a blending of those two films.
Itís very clear from director J.J. Abramsí words that heís still very skeptical about releasing even this much information, but as he says, ď I feel we need a little bit of a coming-out party because we are up against massive franchises and brands and most people donít know what Super 8 means.Ē
Weíll keep you updated once we get more information and the Super Bowl spots come online.
