Tom Cruise’s involvement with Valkyrie made for plenty of press over the summer, as German officials debated back and forth whether they would let the Bryan Singer picture film on location. Later press for the movie downplayed Cruise’s part, with the first image from the film making it look like more of an ensemble piece. That approach seems to be continuing with the first promotional video for the picture highlighting the other big names involved just as much as Cruise.
The movie is about a covert operation within the German government to assassinate Hitler during the height of his power. As history shows, the operation was a failure, with few people actually aware of the plan. That doesn’t make the people involved any less notable however, so the movie is kind of unearthing an all-but hidden part of history for those unaware.
Slashfilm has gotten their hands on the first promotional video, which reveals a look behind the scenes of the project, particularly of Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. Still, it’s hard not to notice that those speaking are placing just as much emphasis on the other players as Cruise.
