I'm all for grassroots efforts to getting people to go the movies, even if that's the reason that Tyler Perry's movies keep showing up like clockwork. But the plan that Chuck Palahniuk fansite ChuckPalahniuk.net came up with to get people to theaters to see Choke is not only convoluted, but a little money-grubbing to boot.

Basically they're saying that the person who convinces the most people to go see Choke this weekend will have a character named after them in Palahniuk's next book. To prove it you've got to go through some substantial effort, which involves having everyone you convinced to see the movie taking a picture of themselves with their ticket stub, then you collecting all those photos and e-mailing them to the contest chiefs. Maybe I'm just too technologically illiterate for my own good, but isn't that an awful lot of work? Can't we just settle for the honor system here?

It's surely a great opportunity for any Palahniuk fans who didn't bother to see the movie last weekend-- but if you're in that camp, what have you been waiting for? If you love Palahniuk that much, wouldn't you have seen the movie opening weekend? And finally, if what you love so much is Palahniuk's books, does it really matter whether or not the movies do well?

But again, I'm just being a spoilsport. Head to the fansite to get out the details, and go forth and buys piles and piles of tickets. And hey, no Photoshopping!
