See Streep Bed Bounce In Mamma Mia!

By Josh Tyler: 2007-09-24 00:12:50
Am I the only one having a hard time getting a handle on Mamma Mia!? Bad enough that it’s a musical using the music of ABBA, a band which I thought we’d all gotten together as a society and agreed upon forgetting. I don’t know how you make a musical out of that, or more importantly why you’d want to. But then, like anyone who doesn’t live in New York, I haven’t seen it. Yes New Yorkers, there is a world outside your city, there are places where Mamma Mia! has never been shown.

Weirder than the ABBA music though, is the cast. Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep are starring, and picturing them singing ABBA tunes is almost as hard to fathom as James Bond engaging in carefully choreographed, stage-style line-dancing. That’s just not cool.

It only gets weirder with the release of two new pictures from the Mamma Mia! set. The second one is pretty normal, but in the first one… well apparently 58-year-old Meryl Streep is spending at least part of the movie jumping on beds in her overalls. Goodbye dignity. Check it out below, or see them in high-res here.

What's wrong with Abba and the fact there there's a popular musical based on their music? It's one of the most popular musicals ever made and Abba was, and still is, one of the biggest acts ever. Not only in New York but all over the world.
Streep is a good actress, and seeing those pics, I think she's doing a great job in this movie!

Mamma Mia has been touring the US for seven years, long before it even opened on Broadway, as well as playing in hundreds of cities around the world. It's not just for people "in New York". That's why they're making a movie.

Mamma-mia! only has Phantom of the Opera to overtake in terms of worldwide box office sales. (It's now at 2.4 billion to POTO's 3.2 billion). Not only is this musical the best damn thing to enter the theatrical world since perhaps CATS and the above mentioned. Please people!! ABBA was/is a phenomenal worldwide popularity. I'm very sympathethic to the USA (not North America per se) for their naive ignorance that this Swedish group STILL outsells worldwide in terms of album sales opposed to many artists. They are the musical movement since the Beatles, and as far as sales are concerned....only behind the Beatles and Elvis. But who cares about sales at this moment, their influence, appeal, and worldwide status...including Asia, Caribbean/Latin America and Down Under makes one think as to why they won't return!!!! Would you? I'd be scared! In one thought, MM! has made musical history...it's brilliant and reminds the world that, even though they (ABBA) feel the need to say thanks, they will never try again. MM! IS at this point ABBA....and a very impressive comeback...if you may.

For the North American market, ABBA felt they missed out, but now, at home with coffee and toast, they've made their point...unfortunately, not when they meant to.

ABBA GOLD - 7 million. USA

    Mamma-Mia! Phenomenally successful!

Kudos to the Swedes...and welcome to the beauty of ABBA.

    Michael
