Will Ferrell is really blending the line between actor and character. Most people would be hard pressed to remember the Super Bowl ad for Ferrell’s next movie, Semi-Pro, but his character, Jackie Moon, helped push beer during the big sports event. Jackie Moon also has a music video and single available for purchase on iTunes, which we’ve reported on before.

So what’s next for the Semi-Pro advertisements, that don’t actually advertise the movie? Ferrell and Jackie Moon continue their PR blitz with an appearance in this year’s Swimsuit Edition of Sports Illustrated. If that makes you as nervous as it made me when I first heard the news, don’t worry. Ferrell’s Jackie Moon doesn’t appear in any skimpy bathing suits in any of the pictures online, and he is accompanied by Heidi Klum in the photoshoot, who is more scantily clad than Ferrell… er, Moon.

I don’t know if having the Semi-Pro character appear in all of these ads will help promote Ferrell’s next movie all that much, but Ferrell seems to be having fun creating a life for this character beyond the boundaries of the movie. Considering the similarities between Moon and previous characters like Ron Burgandy and Ricky Bobby, I would expect to see Ferrell try more of this in the future as he brings you even more characters similar to those he’s played in the past.
