A few weeks ago the great Alan Tudyk hinted around to Moviehole that there might be a sequel to Serenity. Fans everywhere instantly stripped naked and took to the streets in celebration, but they may have revealed their bits and pieces for no reason. One of Alan’s Serenity co-stars has responded and said he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
The word comes from SciFiWire where they’ve been stalking the MySpace page of super-cute actress Jewel Staite. Staite played the horny ship’s engineer Kaylee in Serenity and Firefly and she’s currently mired on that awful syndicated spin-off show Stargate: Atlantis. I’m glad she’s working, but I kind of feel bad for her that she’s been forced to go from a quality show like Firefly to the absolute dregs of science fiction.
Anyway, speaking of Serenity 2 Jewel has this to say: “Okay, okay, okay: Lets address these Serenity 2 rumors before anything else. I have no idea what you people are talking about! Seems to me someone (with a name that starts with A and ends in LAN) said something in an interview that was misconstrued as the sequel being greenlit, which is not the case at the moment. I will never say it will never happen, because that's just blasphemy in my opinion, but it's not happening at the moment… no matter what you read on the internet. You know better than to believe everything you read, anyway! (except this blog… cuz it's all true.)” Even her blogs are cute. I think I’m in love.
So there you have it, if there’s a Serenity 2 happening it’s being kept secret from one of the film’s stars. I’m more inclined to believe Staite than Tudyk, if only because Tudyk’s character is dead and probably wouldn’t be in the sequel anyway. She’d probably be higher on creator Joss Whedon’s “call in case of sequel” list.

you know ...just because the Stargate series doesn't have the mellowdrama, sensitivity, and "girl talk" that one is used to in a Joss Whedon production is no reason to refer to it as the "absolute dregs of science fiction" ....we want epic space battles!.....we want technobabble!!....we want to hear the sound of over 50 invading soldiers being atomized against the Gate shield one at a time!!!!......yeah!!!....WOOOOOO!!!!...
Joss Whedon is good friends with all the cast members from Firefly/Serenity and keeps in touch with them in the same way most of us would keep in touch with our friends. If Joss got the green light for a sequel the ENTIRE cast would be notified on principal, whether their characters were dead or not. It'd be disrespectful for him not to and quite frankly I'm surprised anyone who was a fan of Joss Whedon would think anything different.
Firefly was more than a TV show. You listen to the way those cast members talk about that show. Jewel Staite said in a recent interview on her role in Atlantis that her favourite role is still Kaylee, nothing has topped it yet. And judging by the shows that are on TV these days nothing ever will. I love StarGate and IMO both SG-1 and Atlantis are still good shows. Not as good as FireFly overall, but they're still good.
You want stupidity haha. At least serenity had a plot and story and not a bunch of unrelated episodes that teach you absolutely nothing. I've sort of sick of these types of shows I've become more sophisticated cause the TV screen is flooded with these shows and plainly I'm just sick of them!
like firefly too, and stargate but im waiting for 2nd half of season 4 batlestargalactica to air >.< what the hell they only released half a season to piss us off
Serenity is as good as any of the modern sci-fi. It has a good story a great cast and the overall feel is awesome. I have been a fan from watching all the available Firefire episodes but the movie took it to another level. Maybe the marketing people need a good kick in the butt because this move deserves better then it got.
Batlestar Galactica was and is crap I loved the original (yes I an that old) but after the first couple of episodes of series 1 that was it for me :(
