Browncoats (the nickname for die-hard fans of the Joss Whedon Sci-Fi Channel series "Firefly") just can't let it go. They've thrown millions at purchasing the one season of the cancelled show on DVD. They pressed and begged for a movie, Serenity, swearing they would back it up, promising it would succeed at the box office. Joss Whedon championed the project on their behalf but the movie tanked, not because it's bad, but because the crowds just didn't show up to see it. Now, perhaps unhappy that their fervor isn't paying off like they'd hoped, they're circulating rumors that a sequel to the movie is on it's way.

IGNFilmForce is reporting to have a credible rumor (hopefully they wouldn't report an uncredile one) about the sequel which would supposedly be developed in conjunction with the Sci-Fi Channel with plans to air it on that television network. Apparently they also called Joss Whedon's group who denied the claim.

Who knows who's really behind these rumors, but it's just about the only tactic out there lamer than starting a petition. It's time to move on folks, and enjoy what's already there. Dragging it out will only result in the same kind of depressing, low budget moviefilms repeatedly produced for Babylon 5. Is that really how you want Capt. Mal and crew to ride off into the sunset?
