Serenity in the Light

Even though I know nothing about “Firefly” beyond the one or two episodes I got around to seeing before it was cancelled (one of which featured a brilliant moment in which the crew throws a helpless enemy into the ship’s engine just for kicks) I’m getting a little pumped about Serenity. After all, it’s a sci-fi space adventure that just might not suck. My love for Riddick aside, that’s a rarity these days in a world when old staples like Star Trek and Star Wars have lost all their luster.

The funny thing is that Universal Pictures seems to be excited about it too. I mean, it’s a small budgeted movie based on a FAILED television series. I keep expecting Universal to wake up and pull the plug on this crazy fanboy fantasy. Maybe they remember a little cancelled TV show called “Star Trek”. Whatever the reason, according to Serenity crewmember Adam Baldwin, ”The studio is robustly enthusiastic!" When asked if he always uses high falutin words like “robustly” Baldwin replied, “Indubitably!” Ok no he didn’t, but I bet if someone had asked him that question he would.

Adding further to expectations which will be difficult to live up to Baldwin added, “Brother, we begin some really gnarly action sequences on Monday which will last for three or so weeks. I think we wrap on the 24th… The footage is amazing!... Summer Glau is a Big Damn Movie Star!!! Just like Nate and the rest of his crew!”
