It was around this time last year when we hipped you to this clip, a fake trailer in which Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel survive the Apocalypse together, and then get on each other’s nerves. At the time, nobody was entirely sure what it was supposed to be for, we did however know that it was one minute and twenty-five seconds.
Well now we know what Seth and Jay were up to with their Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse trailer. They were pitching a movie. A movie which is now a reality. Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse is being turned into a feature film by Mandate Pictures, according to HR. Wait, isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Don't you make the movie first and then the trailer?
Since their names are kind of in the title, Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel will star, and the script is being written and produced by Seth and his lifetime friend/Superbad writing partner Evan Goldberg, whom the folks at Mandate have had the good sense to give complete creative control.
The story is exactly what it seems to be in the trailer. The world is ending, unfolding, and being invaded by monsters. Meanwhile, two guys are trapped in a crummy apartment together getting on each others’ nerves. It’s entirely likely that we’ll see a lot of Seth Rogen peeing in a bucket.
By way of reminder, here’s another look at the trailer for Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse:
