Shawn Levy Gets More Work![]()
If you’re a director, making a really terrible movie doesn’t necessarily sink your career. Even a string of bad movies isn’t the death knell. One big hit can set everything right and make you the toast of the town again. This is known as the Shawn Levy Rule.
Levy is the television director who took already iffy material like the Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther remakes and drove them right into crap-town. But his latest movie, Night at the Museum, is a monster hit and everyone, it seems, wants a little Levy on their set. The Hollywood Reporter says that Levy's next project will be Fox Searchlight's comedy The Way Back. The movie is described as a departure from the special effects laden Night at the Museum with a 15-year-old boy moving into young adulthood at his parent’s beach house rental one summer. I have to admit that I liked Night at the Museum, not enough for the obligatory sequel or anything, but it was fun. I’m not sure that makes Levy less of an anathema to me, though. Claudia Lewis, president of production at Fox Searchlight feels he’s the right choice. He brings such vim and vigor to his comedies," she said. "And this project really hearkens back to some of his earlier work." Since his earlier work consists of television movies and Big Fat Liar, I really don’t see that as a ringing endorsement. If this movie involves dyeing someone blue, I’m outta there. |
