Shia To Get Smart In Dark Fields![]()
Looks like busy boy Shia LaBeouf is getting another title to add to his resume. According to ComingSoon.net, Shia will be teaming up with director Neil Burger (The Illusionist) for the film Dark Fields to be shot in New York City sometime this winter.
The movie is based on the 2002 novel “The Dark Fields” written by Alan Glynn. It’s the story of a young man who gets a hold of a top-secret pill with the ability to make a person smarter. The beauties of the pill begin to overshadow its negative side effects, which include terrible headaches and a phenomenon called “trip-switching” during which time moves in a stop-motion-like manner. Burger explains the concept is not of a science fiction nature, “it's more like if there's viagra or steroids, why isn't there something that increases your synaptic connections and makes you think smarter and faster, but it's not without side effects and consequences." Since my new obsession is only reading books that are becoming movies (examples include “Marley & Me” and “My Sister’s Keeper”), “The Dark Fields,” could be next on my bored-on-the-train reading list. It really does add a new degree of excitement to seeing a film when you’ve read the book first. It’s almost like buying something with the first check you receive at a new job. It’s so much more enjoyable when you’ve earned the money. Similarly, it’s as if you’ve earned the right to see the film in a different light from the rest of the world when you’ve read the book. According to IMDB the film isn’t due until 2010, but it’s okay. LaBeouf will be busy enough with the release of Eagle Eye and the making of a Transformers sequel. Unfortunately, Two years is a long time to wait, so even if you’re not a big fan of reading at least you have a lot of time to get it done. |
