Apparently the buzz on Michael Moore’s new movie Sicko is so good, that the Weinstein Company has decided to get it out there earlier. Instead of waiting till the 29th, they’re opening it this weekend in New York, and holding public sneaks of the film around the country, probably on Saturday.
They’ve been screening it for the press all week, and right now the film has a shiny 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and even people (like me) who haven’t been happy with Moore’s last two efforts are heaping it with praise. It really is that good.
So it makes sense that they strike while the iron is hot. This is Michael Moore after all, and the good buzz can’t last forever. The backlash will start eventually, hopefully by opening it early they’ll beat the inevitable, politically motivated bashing to the theater.
