Sightseers Trailer Shows A Holiday From Hell
Last year British writer-director Ben Wheatley earned earnest buzz Stateside when his chilling horror-thriller Kill List premiered at the SXSW festival in Austin. The film drew praise for its slow burn and moody approach to terror. Now Wheatley is back with Sightseers, a feature that pairs the filmmaker's brutal sensibilities with pitch black humor.
Produced by Shaun of the Dead writer and director Edgar Wright, Sightseers centers on a pair of lovers taking their first holiday together. Alice Lowe and Steve Oram, who both appeared in Kill List, penned the screenplay and star as Tina and Chris. She's a sheltered wallflower; he's a man of passion who wants to show her the world, staring with the rolling countryside of the England and the offbeat landmarks along the way. Traveling together in an RV, things are looking lovely for the couple, until a rude local spurs Chris to violent revenge.

Even from this brief glimpse, Wheatley seems to have something extraordinary here. By heightening the tensions that can often taint travel, he offers something fearsome yet farcical, making Sightseers a feature worth keeping an eye out for.
Sightseers made its world premiere last May at the Cannes Film Festival, and will make its theatrical debut in the United Kingdom on November 30th. IFC Films has secured distribution rights for the film Stateside, but a release date has not yet been announced. In the meantime, Sightseers will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
