Silver Surfer Trailer Rises In High Res The first Fantastic Four 2 trailer is finally available online in an official, high-resolution, high-def video. Is it good? I don’t know. It’s really just a chase sequence, showing off the Human Torch chasing the film’s new villain Silver Surfer. As a trailer I’m not sure it works, as a way to judge whether or not Tim Story’s CGI team is up to the task of animating a silver man on a surf board though, it’s a great indicator.

The verdict? Not good. Sorry, Surfer just doesn’t look real. I’m not sure how you make a silver man look real, or if it’s even possible to do so. But to me, they haven’t found a way to do it here. The scene looks like exactly what it is. An animated Human Torch chasing an animated silver guy. There’s no weight to it, there’s not a single second in the trailer where you can suspend your disbelief and go “wow this is really happening!”.

When Spider-Man swings off a building, you can close your eyes and say “yes, that’s what it would really look like!” There’s none of that here. It’s a cartoon. Maybe it’ll be a fun cartoon, but a cartoon just the same.

I’ve dropped a few screencaps from it below, just to give you a freeze-frame idea of what we’re dealing with.
