If you are a fan of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost or Edgar Wright, you are truly doing yourself a disservice by not checking out the British sitcom Spaced, the show that not only brought all three together for the first time, but also inadvertently led to the creation of Shaun of the Dead. While the concept wasn't perfect, friends pretend they are a couple to land an apartment after being dumped by their significant others, it didn't really matter as all of the humor flowed from the incredibly likable characters and subtle/not-so-subtle pop-culture references. Since then, Pegg has become a big star stateside, and his next project paring him up with John Landis for the horror-comedy Burke and Hare. Now he's bringing his Spaced co-stars along for the ride.
Via his Twitter (which you really should be following), Pegg linked fans to the Burke and Hare cast list on IMDb, saying, "Tim, Daisy, Tyres, Bilbo and Dexter... together again." No idea what this means? Well, take a look at the pages for Pegg, Jessica Hynes, Michael Smiley, Bill Bailey and Reece Shearsmith. Each actor played in at least two episodes of the hit series, the outlier being Hynes, who not only played the lead female character, but was also Pegg's co-writer. This is not the first time that Pegg has showed love to his former castmates, with Hynes and Smiley both having roles in Shaun of the Dead and Bailey and actress Julia Deakin having small parts in Hot Fuzz.
This project, be it because of Pegg or Landis, is already high on many "most anticipated" lists and this revelation isn't exactly going to scare anybody off. While this news is awesome on so many levels, I'm going to get greedy and ask for more. Mr Landis - would Nick Frost and Mark Heap cameos be out of the question?
