Simon West Wants To Make A Con Air 2![]()
I know it's a strange thing for a film critic to say, but I can't explain why I have so much fun watching Con Air. It's truly ineffable. The whole thing should be terrible, between John Malkovich's way over the top Cyrus The Virus to Nic Cage's ridiculous hair, but it all gels into this perfect bit of insane awesomeness that I have to watch every time it's on TV. It's for that reason and that reason alone that when I hear Simon West say that he wants to make a Con Air 2, I say, "Yes, please."
Speaking to Coming Soon while promoting his newest film, The Mechanic, West revealed that he would totally be in favor of bringing the everyone he can back for a sequel to the 1997 film. He does foresee one problem, however: getting all of the stars from the original back together. Lucky for us, he does have an in already, as his next film, Medallion, reunites him with Cage for the first time in 14 years. "There's so many people involved and it's about getting everybody to agree. But I'm going to bring it up to Nic. I'm going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we'll go after the others." To be honest, I think that West might be overblowing the hardship that would come with getting the team back together. Unless he's talking about making a prequel, he only really needs to focus on getting Cage, John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Monica Potter and Mykelti Williamson. By the end of the first film, John Malkovich, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Dave Chappelle, Nick Chinlund and M.C. Gainey, among many, many others, are all very much dead. Simon West, please make this happen. |
